We are expanding across Gateshead, delivering locally generated, low-cost, low-carbon heat to homes supporting; warmer, healthier homes, better physical health, those in fuel poverty and decarbonising Gateshead.

Freight Village

Freight Village is a new-build site. 270 affordable homes, mixed with private owners, private rented and social homes.

  • 2021 Scheme design

    Detailed feasibility, modelling, and route optimisation are undertaken to define pipework alignments, energy centre requirements, and phased network expansion, alongside stakeholder engagement and commercial structuring.

  • 2022+ Building connections

    Installation of primary distribution pipework, energy centre construction, and key civil works commence, with careful coordination around utilities, highways, and permitting to minimise disruption and ensure future network scalability.

  • 2023 Build begins

    First properties begin to have their builds completed and connected to the heat network via heat interface units (HIUs). As residents move in, customer onboarding activities begin.

  • 2027 Final connections

    The final homes on the site complete their build, and the final connections to the heat network installed. Last of the residents move into their homes.
